Located on a hill just above Velenje's city centre, the immaculate Vila Herberstein is nevertheless in a space and time completely separated from the town only a few hundred metres below. Dating back to the second half of the 19th century, the previous owners included several noble families - including the mysterious Maria Anne Herberstein from whom it now takes its name - and the villa was restored to its former glory by its current owner Gorenje following Slovenian independence. The separate dining rooms provide an unsurpassed atmosphere, transporting guests back in time, while the food and service are every bit as fitting. It's well-worth stopping by here on any visit to Velenje, even if it's just for a cup of coffee (and perhaps a quick tour of the premises and grounds).
