Both literally and figuratively in the shadow of the more famous Tito Statue a few dozen metres away, this intricately crafted monument honours the man who played a key role in the founding of modern Velenje, and oversaw the city's prosperity during its first decades. The long-time director of the Velenje coal mine, Žgank went on to serve as the president of the Velenje Assembly for much of the 1970s. The monument is a relatively new addition to the square, only dedicated in 2009 to mark the 100th anniversary of Žgank's birth.
