The remains of 14th-century Danja Castle, set on a rocky hill above the former location of Danja's town centre, strategically overlook the Zadrima plains and trade route between Shkodra, the coast and Kosovo. Home of the Zaharias family, this was an episcopal seat and formed an important cultural centre in the region in the 11th to 15th centuries. Ruined walls remain, from where there are great views across the dam and lake as well as out to sea.
