One of Albania's oldest and most beautiful churches, a 13th century Gothic chapel where national hero Skanderbeg is said to have been crowned, was located here at the foot of Deja mountain. It was dynamited and completely destroyed during the atheist campaigns in 1969, and the perpetrator was let off for 'not knowing the church was a protected monument'. Its foundations lie next to a reconstructed new church, where a small exhibition shows some photos and remains, proof of this cultural crime.
