We take them for granted, but the historic importance of roads cannot be overstated. The most important road in Finland? That honour goes to Hämeen Härkätie (Oxen Road), a thoroughfare stretching out over 162km that has held the footsteps of everyone from traders to pilgrims since the 9th century. It linked settlements and allowed for commerce and development, although assumptions that that informs the name might be misplaced. A historic walk waiting to happen.
