Located just outside the village of Opicina in the hills above Trieste, La Pineta (or Trattoria La Pineta Martina and Nicoletta to use it's full name) is a world away from the commotion of the city below. This typical Karst house offers a strict seasonal menu of local specialties from the region, with some outstanding meat dishes taking pride of place, including venison and the Lubianska steak stuffed with ham and cheese and grilled to perfection, as well as unique side dishes such as fried potato chifeletti. During warmer months dining in the garden is a real treat. To get there take the main road towards the Slovene border, turn left at the large NLB bank and then turn left after the second underpass.
