Erected in the second half of the 14th century, the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is considered to be one of the most important pieces of sacral architecture in Poland.
Built for the Franciscans, this church reflects the order's stance on not having a main tower, but instead showcases three small ave-bell towers at its front. Upon it's completion, Church of the Virgin Mary was in fact the highest church in Central Europe, with naves and aisles of 26.8m. The church and the cloister remained in Franciscan hands up to the Reformation period in 1559.
