The sea and the sand get most of the plaudits, but the Algarve is also home to one of the most delightful mountain ranges in all of Portugal. The Monchique Range covers 32km of land just 20km from the sea, with its highest point stretching 902m into the sky. Fóia is the name of the peak, and the views from the top are predictably magnificent. This is the roof of the Algarve.
