Of course, you don’t build it hoping that it’ll become a charming tourist attraction a few centuries later, but every little helps. The Fort of São João do Arade is a gorgeous stone castle on top of a hill between the beaches of Angrinha and Grande, making for quite the image. Ferragudo (Lagoa) is the town to look for.
