An authentically recreated tavern just next to the 'D' terminal in the port, Kochi has pulled all the stops to make sure that locals and travellers alike will want to come back for more. The hearty, primarily local cuisine is top-notch for the price, they have live acts booked pretty much every weekend and they've built a functional brewery on the premises. They have a few of their very own micro-brews on offer, which includes, among other speciality beers, a 'live' draught as well.

I found this place by chance as it was situated just behind my hotel in the port area. It's a massive beer hall that seems to cater for a mostly Finnish crowd of cheerful booze cruisers. I was there on a Friday night and the place was packed to the rafters and there was a live band on from 10pm. Although I didn’t have anything to eat the menu looked great. Estonian specialities such as "crispy pig's ear with mustard and pickled onions" "spiced sprat open sandwich" and as much moose as you could eat - moose dumplings moose salad and braised moose - all on offer for a just couple of euros. There is also a micro brewery on-site so you can wash your food down with some great local beer which I did try . The area felt safe even late at night and it’s just a 15 minute stroll or a €3 taxi ride from the Old Town. Definitely one to consider if you fancy a break from the frenetic nightlife of the town centre.
