The site of the first church built in Szczecin in 1124, coinciding with the Christianisation of the local area under Bolesław III Wrymouth. Being heavily damaged in 1677 during the Scanian War between Swedish-occupied Pomerania and its surrounding powers. After this, it was gradually rebuilt in a neo-gothic brick style, typical of the architecture across the subsequent Prussian empire.
