The oval-shaped, pizza-like Macedonian delicacy known as pastrmajlija can be found and consumed all over the country, although it’s in Štip where it’s most famously worshipped and prepared, and also where an annual festival takes place in its honour. Made from light and crusty white bread and topped with various types of meat and—for the real deal—a single egg, find it on menus throughout the region where it can be eaten as part of a larger meal or taken away in the style of its more famous Italian cousin.
