The space that divides Sopot from Gdańsk was originally used in 1870 by Wrzeszcz’s Black Hussars for hunts, and later in 1898 regular equine events were introduced. It was around this time that two grandstands and a betting hall were also added. Between the wars the Sopot racetrack became big news, and was known for hosting international events. By 1970 show jump events had been discontinued though the practice has been resurrected in recent years.
