Posters are something we see every day and might not even care to examine their design. Used to advertise everything from toilet paper to the next big concert, not much thought is given to what makes them effective and artistic. The post-war Japanese poster, especially from the second half of the 20th century, opens up interesting pages in the history of the posters of the world. Japanese designers aptly linked the hundreds of years of national print and painting tradition with current trends in modern art. Japanese poster designers have even become important figures. On display for this exhibit are Yusaku Kamekura (1915 – 1997), Ikko Tanaki (1930 – 2002) and Shigeo Fukuda (1935 – 2009), showcasing what can be achieved with this medium.
