Skopje’s weather-worn train station was built to replace the one destroyed by the 1963 earthquake. Like it or loathe it, it's what you need if you want to take the train anywhere in Macedonia. Also serving a few international destinations including Belgrade, Ljubljana, Pristina, Thessaloniki and Zagreb, be warned that services at the station are limited to say the least and we recommend you use the adjoining bus station for these. If you’re planning on visiting Bitola when you’re in Macedonia, we recommend the train journey, which passes the awesome Vardar Gorge and some stunning untouched nature along the way.
