If you consume any milk, yogurt or other dairy products whilst in Macedonia, the chances are good that they were made by the folks at Mlekara Bitola, by far the largest producer of such goods in the country. Founded in 1952, the company combines the Balkans’ long and storied tradition of dairy production with modern facilities and adherence to strict EU standards, and have also been repeatedly recognised at EU level for their various social and environmental responsibility programmes. The most distinguishing feature of the company’s products is Bitolsko Chupe (Bitola Girl), the adorable mascot who teaches Macedonian children about nutrition, saving the environment and humanity. If you were to sample but one item from Bimilk's extensive offering, we’d recommend the Bitolski yogurt, a traditional sour milk drink with 2.8 percent milk fat.
