The newest craze in Šibenik is the revamped underground of the St. Michael’s fortress. We are not talking dungeons but two massive hidden water tanks that have been converted to a multimedia space. Visitors are able to witness the history of the fortress and the city itself though 3D mapping. This is where projectors and speakers create a sonic backdrop over the floors and walls offering an entirely new visual and spatial experience. Themes include the defence of the Christian faith with the city’s patron St. Michael defeating the dragon. You get to see the rise and fall of the city across the Middle Ages and the Renaissance period, 1000 years of battle and survival. See archaeological finds from the Illyrian age until today and a whole lot more that will leave Šibenik, vividly placed in your hearts.
