Šiauliai’s 900-metre pedestrian street claims that it’s the third oldest boulevard of its type in Europe. Made traffic-free in 1975 and running east-west through the centre of the city, Vilniaus was once the only place to shop, but has now been overshadowed by several large shopping centres. A popular place to stroll during the summer months, Vilniaus is sprinkled with shops, restaurants and bars as well as several extraordinary pieces of public art. Smoking along its entire length is strictly prohibited.
