Sarajevo’s City Hall is one of the finest Austro-Hungarian-era buildings in the city, a psuedo-Moorish beauty that captures the eye from all angles. The Vijećnica ('City Hall' in Bosnian, essentially) was utterly obliterated during the war, and the vast majority of its rare books were destroyed and lost. The building was lovingly rebuilt in the years following the war, reopening to much deserved fanfare in 2014. Hom to the National Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Vijećnica is another major Sarajevo building with a past, present and future. Important, impressive and incredibly photogenic, Sarajevo's Vijećnica should be right at the top of your Bosnia Bucket List.
