A quite stunning piece of history that stands protectively over Sarajevo, the Bijela Tabija (White Fortress) has seen more events than most. Built in the 16th century, this limestone construction has been a popular spot for sunset beers and romantic trysts for years, liquid refreshment that is even more delicious when enjoyed after the long and arduous walk up to this vantage point, some 667 metres above sea level. There are a number of walking routes, but we tend to head here via Haris Youth Hostel (pop in and say hi to Haris on your way), taking in the marvels of Vratnik and the Višegrad Gate as we go.
