The neo-gothic Buen Pastor Cathedral is one of the icons of the city. The Cathedral was inaugurated in 1897 and is the perfect example of the foreign European influences that helped shape San Sebastian during the second half of the 19th century. Its 75-metre high tower rises in the shape of a needle that can be seen from almost every part of the city. A marvelous feature ’The Cross of Peace’ by the basque sculptor Eduardo Chillida can be found on the facade of the cathedral. The organ, with more than 10,000 whistles, is one of the most treasured elements in the cathedral, being one of the largest ever made in Europe and, most certainly, the largest in Spain.
