Generations of locals have been raised on ’t Spul van De Rul (literally: the Rul’s stuff).  This venerable nickname is printed in the local dialect on the oldest ice-cream cart in the Netherlands. It's been around for over a hundred years and has recently been completely restored. Many a visitor to ‘s-Hertogenbosch still enjoys the famous ‘t Spul van De Rul ice-cream served from the old cart that carries no less than 42 litres ice-cream in its belly, enough to fill over 600 Belgian handmade cones. From the end of the 19th century until the end of the 1970s, the Dupuis family pushed their old Dutch ice-cream carts on ‘s-Hertogenbosch's streets, which is why many TV and film producers have used these carts in historic films and period pieces. The original cart, which dates to 1903, is now completely restored and the restoration of the second cart from 1907 will be completed this summer. Best of all, you can buy an ice-cream cone for only €1!
You can find the ice-cream cart in front of the city hall on Markt 1 every Wednesday and Saturday (market days) from 11:30 - 16:30 from the end of April to the beginning of October and also on shopping Sundays and during major events.
