Walk into this upmarket Russian restaurant and you’ll feel like you’ve strolled onto the set of Doctor Zhivago… before the revolution brought down the aristocracy. Uncle Vanya’s elegant interior is loaded with shelves crammed full of old books, ceramic figurines and other antiques and the walls are covered in tsarist-era black and white photos and reproductions of classic Russian paintings. The menu offers modern versions of traditional Slavic cuisine presented in a unique way. You can also order homemade spirits like horseradish flavoured vodka and, our favourite, black currant liqueur served in chilled glasses or carafes.
