In ancient times, silver jewellery was a symbol of status and wealth worn by Latvians on special occasions. Although there are many traditional designs available at souvenir shops around Riga, Baltu Rotas / Baltic Jewellery specialises in rings, bracelets, earrings and necklaces based on jewellery unearthed at 6th - 12th-century archaeological sites around the Baltic region, as well as original designs. The jewellery is aesthetic, affordable and can even be worn on your flight home. The pendant pictured here is from its Prussian sun collection, whose design dates back to the 2nd century. The shop also specialises in the legendary Namejs ring and also has a one-room museum dedicated to ancient Baltic jewellery. Price: €25 - 75.
