This monumental building a stone’s throw from the Freedom Monument is the temporary home of the Latvian History Museum until it returns to its original location at Riga Castle. Three floors of artefacts from the Stone Age to the present day await your perusal as well as temporary and permanent exhibitions such as Latvia's Century in honour of the nation's centenary and Money in Latvia, which is an absolute must for numismatists. View ancient weapons, jewellery and other treasures discovered at archaeological sites, as well 19th-century farming implements, historic folk costumes and an entire hall dedicated to wooden religious sculptures that have been preserved for posterity. Four rooms with period furniture also recreate typical apartments during the Biedermeier, Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Soviet eras of design in Riga. Some interactive exhibits and films are also available in English and you can buy books and souvenirs at its gift shop.
