Walk through the opulent foyer past the ticket booth in Riga’s oldest cinema and take the stairs to the cellar to discover this retro café with a film theme. The main hall has plenty of seating facing a central screen that entertains patrons (for a small fee) with classic and contemporary Oscar-calibre movies most evenings, but if you’re looking for a quiet drink we recommend the so-called ‘library’ with its green crushed velvet seats, parquet floor and dark wooden bookcases that feature a few famous cinema scenes including a cool-as-a-cucumber Sharon Stone in the interrogation room and a flustered Tippi Hedren fleeing from Hitchcock’s birds. Only open for film screenings.
