On October 5, 2016, what would have been playwright, dissident and president Václav Havel’s 80th birthday, a square in Prague was renamed in his honour. Located between the National Theatre and the Nová scéna theatre, the piazzetta is now named ‘Václav Havel Square.’ In the far corner you will find a red heart sculpture with Havel’s signature also in red above it. People can write messages on the installation and the symbol was used because Havel was known for adding a heart to his signature. This particular square was chosen to commemorate Havel because of his work as a playwright.
