Proserpina Fountain

Stary Rynek     more than a year ago
One of four fountains in each corner of the market square depicting characters from Roman mythology, only Proserpina is the 'real McCoy' (to use a delightfully random English idiom); the other three are reproductions. Dating back to 1766, this beautiful sandstone fountain by Augustine Schöps depicts the goddess of grain and agriculture being dramatically abducted by the God of the Underworld.
