Perseus Freeing Andromeda

  Wilson Park ,   Łazarz         03 Jun 2024
This rather spectacular scene from Greek mythology shows Perseus using the gorgon’s head to free Princess Andromeda from the sea monster Ketos. Sculpted in 1891 by Johannes Pfuhl, a professor of the Academy of Arts in Berlin, it was commissioned to honour Queen Augusta Victoria, who had visited the city in 1888. Originally located on Plac Cyryla Ratajskiego, the monument was thoroughly renovated after WWII, and moved to Wilson Park, where it now stands in front of the Palm House.
