Monument of the Polish Underground State & Home Army

Get to Wieniawski Park to view one of Poznań’s newer monuments, dedicated to the wartime Polish Underground State and Home Army. Set at the intersection of al. Niepodległości and ul. Libelta, and the work of Gdańsk artist Mariusz Kulpa, this really takes some deciphering. Unveiled on September 26, 2007, the installation consists of numerous tablets commemorating both individuals and organisations, as well as six stone eagles seemingly suspended in mid-air, which represent Poland’s (seemingly paradoxical) flight and fight for independence. It's truly a stunning work, and even more so in the evening when illuminated by the dim red flicker of candles placed in tribute.
