Former Air Raid Shelter on ul. Ładna

Construction of this above-ground air raid shelter began at the end of 1942. Essentially shaped like a big brick, the shelter is 13 metres high, with 1.1 metre-thick walls and a 1.4 metre-thick ceiling. Deliberately disguised to blend in with the neighbouring buildings, the shelter had a dummy roof to make it undetectable from the air. Today it doesn't stand out much either, aside from its suspicious lack of windows and decorative embellishments. During the defense of Festung Breslau, this shelter served as a field hospital and avoided damages. Currently it belongs to the State Treasury, which it serves as a warehouse.
