If restaurants could turn into cars this place would be a Rolls Royce. Like being sucked into a 19th-century novel, the Weranda restaurant comes with a grand piano, gleaming gramophones and an array of trappings that look like they’ve been delivered straight from an estate auction. All this considered, it’s a bit of a shock to flip through the menu – you expect a straight-faced choice of Polski classics, and instead find yourself up against Kobe beef, lobster and kangaroo. Even better, find a small choice of the only molecular dishes in town. It’s a trend-setting place alright and, if you don’t believe us, call ahead and book a table for the Black Diamond restaurant on the third floor – this is just the ticket for couples, with the chef making custom-made surprises for guests dining in pitch darkness.
