The town square is situated at the very core of the historical downtown area. At 139 by 193 metres, it is one of the largest Gothic town squares not only in Bohemia, but in all of Europe. This is where you can feel the heartbeat of the city.
Republic Square is the natural centre for cultural events, celebrations and markets. In addition to St Bartholomew’s Cathedral, the square is dominated by three modern gold fountains and a 17th century plague column.
