There are three main areas in the heart of Plovdiv that attract the visitors, The Old Town, Kapana and the central pedestrianised areas of the new town, all in relatively close proximity to each other but you will need a good two days to get round the sights, especially if you're planning on going inside the museums and old houses.
The Old Town is compact but it is built on three hills and the streets and few pavements are made of very bumpy cobblestones, which can soon wear you out. Sturdy footwear and plenty of refreshment stops are recommended.
