Plac Sławika & Antalla in Katowice.
Formerly known colloquially as simply 'the square in front of Spodek,' this space was given a refurb during the construction of the adjacent International Congress Centre and has been formally named in honour of Henryk Sławik and József Antall. Together these two men - Katowice's own Sławik, and his Hungarian colleague Antall - were responsible for saving an estimated 30,000 Polish refugees during World War II, including 5,000 Polish Jews. Their actions earned them posthumous recognition as 'Righteous Among the Nations' by Yad Vasham, among many other honours, including a monument on this very square. Strategically placed between Spodek and the International Congress Centre, this large space is host to frequent concerts, gatherings, demonstrations, fairs and other events.
