You can't miss the main sight in central Përmet - a massive, molar-shaped stone protruding from the ground along the Vjosa river. Local legend says that the city's name-giver Premti built a fortress on top of the stone, and that during the Turkish invasion in the 14th century, the local leader's daughter Diestra chose to jump off the stone with her baby in a cradle, rather than surrender - with the cradle's scrape marks at the foot of the rock to prove the story. The staircase at the rear gives access to the flat top, where there are ruined walls and good views of the city and the river.
