For a quick taste of the great outdoors, head into the wonderful Fir of Hotova National Park, just north of Përmet and best explored via the road to Frashër or along the Langarica valley. With substantial forests of elegant Macedonian Fir, maple and juniper, the 1200-hectare park covers deep river valley like that of the Lumica, and mountains like Kokojka. Its elusive inhabitants include brown bear, wolf, fox, wild boar and roe deer. The forest has been mostly spared from devastation by illegal logging that is common elsewhere in Albania, ensuring this pearl is preserved for locals and visitors to enjoy.
