The Citadel of Pamplona was built in the 16th century during the reign of King Felipe II aiming to reinforce the city walls. This military fortress remarkable pentagonal design has mainly been preserved and renovated even if the structure suffered numerous attacks throughout the ages. While two centuries ago Ciudadela was turned into a prison, nowadays the building houses several exhibition rooms surrounded by a lovely open park.
