This place has been around since 1834 and with its marble tables and old timey furnishing it certainly looks the part. The specialty here are traditional Palirmitano spleen (milza in Italian) sandwiches, which for a solid millennium have been a favourite snack in Palermo. Antica Foccaceria San Francesco is a Palermo success story and as such gets rather busy. While we won't say this institution, which now even has branches in Milan,is over-hyped, we will say that it can get pretty busy here and that spleen sandwiches are certainly not for everyone. That's why if you end end up having to wait, you'd be wise to order a few things. We highly recommend the Pane e Panelle deep fried chickpea sandwich.
