Nestling in among Ohrid’s narrow winding streets and very close to the lake, first impressions about Villa Tabana can be deceiving. The combined reception and café-bar is dark, but offers a welcome escape from the heat and hordes outside and, if you can be bothered to wander to the far end, features a balcony with picture-perfect views to die for. The rooms are nothing special, but they do at least include everything you need, plus the friendly people who run the place can arrange everything from airport transfers to guided tours. Do be aware though that some of the bars in the immediate area are loud and stay open late.
