Built in 1835 on the site of a much earlier church, this rather simple-looking building conceals a wealth of beauty inside in the form of several icon paintings dating back to the 15th century that were discovered in the attic during reconstruction work in 1993. Most impressive of all the icons on display is that of the church’s namesake, painted in 1267 and considered to possess miraculous qualities. The church is located at the far western end of the Old Bazaar close to the indoor market.
