The largest city in the east of the country and the centre of North Macedonia’s textile industry, Štip sits at the bottom of a hill, overlooked by the ancient ruins of a crumbling castle and bearing the occasional trace of its former rich Jewish past. With a good collection of things to visit in the centre and home to a wide range of restaurants and hotels, Štip is a good contender for a base when visiting the entire region.
