What was once the private chapel of the Sansevero family, today this is one of Europe's best bite-sized museums on acocunt of some very curious items. In the center of the Roccoco chapel lies a statue of Christ's veiled body by Giuseppe Sanmartino that has been known to bring unsuspecting viewers to tears. The sculpture was commisioned by alchemist Raimondo di Sangro and acording to legend was scultped with the help of alchemistic practices. Famed Neoclaissical scuptpor Antonio Canova claimed he would glady give up a decade of his life to sculpt a similar artwork. In the crypt two mysterious creations, aslo comissioned by Raimondo di Sangro, known as "anatomical machines" are made of human skeletons with model "blood vessels" constructed of beeswax, iron wire, and silk.
