Built between the 16th and 19th centuries, this massive, fortress-like palace was the seat of the Bavarian rulers from 1385 to 1918. It would take several days to explore everything in this unusual complex of buildings which accomodate over 400 years of architectural history and house a spectacular array of riches. Visit the royal apartments, treasury and courtyards and, if you have time, the Egyptian Art Museum and the lavishly decorated Old Residence Theatre. Also known as the Cuvillés Theatre, this is perhaps the finest rococo theatre in Europe.
