Avoiding the scars of the war in Mostar is impossible, irresponsible and downright immature, especially when structures like the old Ljubljanska Banka building are staring you right in the face. Standing (barely) directly opposite the Old Gymnasium on Spanish Square, this ginormous building is a shell of its former self, a bombed-out husk of a structure that was grimly used as a sniper’s nest for mercenaries during the war. The days of climbing to the top of the building are long gone, but it remains one of the most poignant reminders of Mostar’s recent past.
