An absolutely enormous place, hard to find and decorated in the manner of a large hunting lodge, the main reason for dropping by is to drink yourself silly on the in-house beer. On offer are a choice of four brews, all of them superb and all of them liable to mislead as the percentage refers to something other than the alcohol content. A favourite among resident and visiting foreigners alike, the food on offer includes ostrich, brains and buckwheat and fish soup. The itinerant band may be good, but it probably won’t stop you wanting to slap them.

OK where to start with this place. Rakovsky Brovar is a hidden bar restaurant and microbrewery located somewhere in the city which I don't know where it was. I followed a few local travbuddies so I kind of lost all sense of direction. Located in an area which looks run down and lots of crime taking place (this is not true by the way) the place looks small on the outside but once walking through the main entrance the place is huge. Nice decor and feeling about the place and was very busy. We managed to get a big table on the upper level and the staff took our orders pretty quickly. Drinks came quick and the food came within twenty minutes. All is well so I thought. The food was very tasty everyone was having a great time. Also I forgot what the smell of smoke was like in restaurants and bars as Belarus do not have a smoking ban in place. Then it came to getting the bill. The staff have added a lot of items onto the bill which we didn't have. After disputing this with the staff the manager got involved and basically her outcome was 'Well its on the computer system you must have ordered it!' Well as we were visitors to the country I didn't fancy getting arrested at a TravBuddy meetup and getting the British Embassy involved so we paid the difference but I did let the manager know on the way out that we used the tip money what we were going to give to the staff to pay the extra on the bill. I didn't know if she understood me but the look on her face wasn't pleasant. Shame on them! Everything went fine until that point just because we were outsiders and tried to scam us well it worked in some ways but I made sure they were scum! I ain't going back to this place again........and their home made beer is pants as well!

Rakovsky Brovar (Раковский Бровар) is a MUST every time I am in Minsk. The restaurant is something different than most other places. The food is very good service is great and the atmosphere is good! The standard is high on everything. This is one of my favorite restaurants in any country I've been to. Just go there!
