Overlooking Prilep approximately 5km from the centre and named after the Serbian prince Marko Mrnjavčević (1335-1395), at 150 metres or so above the city, the ancient and abandoned settlement known as Marko’s Towers dominates the local skyline. Actually several different sites combined in one, with a history dating back to before the Roman period, it’s possible to drive all the way to the former village, a journey that takes you close to a couple of small churches on the side of the hill that are also worth having a look at if you’re in the area.
