This Salford park is actually the oldest public park in the United Kingdom, believe it or not. Opened in 1846, it was done so on the initiative of local entrepreneurs who lamented the lack of public space for the people. Queen Victoria visited in 1851, and while the park isn’t quite as magnificent as it was then it remains a fine place for a tranquil stroll in Greater Manchester. Keep an eye out for the Flood Obelisk, and there is also a playground for young ones.
