The Northern Quarter seems like somewhere that would have a quirky indoor market, and it does not disappoint. Affleck’s is a labyrinth of unorthodox stores and independent outlets that harbours as many stories as it does bargains, all housed in one immensely Instagrammable shell. The building started out as a drapery business in the 1850s but was derelict by the 1960s, until a couple decided to give it a new lease of life as a fresh entrepreneur haven in the 1980s. Alternative culture flourished here, leading to the Affleck’s we know and love today. There are also plenty of excellent cafes and eateries found inside.
