This group exhibition is inspired by and named after the yellow creature in British author and illustrator Mervyn Peake's (1911 – 1968) self-illustrated pirate romance Captain Slaughterboard Drops Anchor. This was published in 1939 and will be on display as part of the show. The yellow creature is a character who switches between the roles of woman, man and animal, always remaining true to themself. Peake later became known for his Gormenghast series. Exhibiting artists from near and far examine the borders between the genders and categories from a contemporary perspective. It looks at the ethical and moral catagories that exist today, asking who defines and profits from these categories and who suffers as a result. The exhibition is curated by Fanni Fetzer and features the following artists: John Akomfrah, Sabian Baumann, Neïl Beloufa, Klodin Erb, Lía García, Klara Kristalova, RELAX (chiarenza & hauser & co), Mervyn Peake, Isabella Rossellini and Mika Rottenberg.
